About Gregory Clarke-Johnsen
I have been painting and drawing most of my life. I got a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in 1974.
From that time to 1996, I created artworks in the traditional media of oils, acrylics, pastel, watercolor and gouache.
In 1996, I was invited into an art class at the local university. The students were attempting to create art using the computer. Although, at that time, the software (Photoshop version 2.5) and the hardware was very primitive by today's standard, I was intrigued.
I decided at that time to put my paint brushes on the shelf and enrolled into a Masters Degree in 3D animation program using Softimage 3D. After a very long and steep learning curve, which involved mastering very complex software like Softimage, 3D studio Max, and Photoshop, I graduated with a Masters Degree in Digital Technologies (3D/2D media.)
Digital media has opened up a tremendous field of possibilities for me as an artist. Along the way, I have also picked up Zbrush, a high-density, mesh-modeling program as a nice addition to my digital media suite of tools. Since 1996, I used the computer exclusively to create my art. However recently, I have decided to again create traditional paintings using oil paints as well as creating digital artwork, especially in Procreate and Affinity Photo apps.
